What is Low Vision?
Low Vision is a measurable reduction in our ability to resolve what we see even with correction. Most would agree that low vision and reduced vision refer to the same phenomenon. The reason one can have reduced vision is usually a retinal condition like macular degeneration. Typically we recommend magnifiers in conjunction with a low vision device such as a magnifier to compensate. In many cases a good magnifier will be sufficient. In more severe cases, some type of digital magnifier will be used. The digital magnifiers used at Crystal Eyecare are from Eschenbach.
We also have a “Vision Buddy” that allows one to stream TV into a headset. The best way to describe what one sees inside is to compare it to being in a theater in which you can increase or decrease the magnification with the touch of a button.
Low vision can rob one of independence. Using a device can help you regain some freedom.
